About this Web Site The purpose of this Regional ITS Architecture web site is to encourage review of the Regional ITS Architectures under development so the architectures accurately reflect the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) vision for the Region. The Northern Ohio Regional ITS Architectures are being developed by Consensus Systems Technologies Corporation (ConSysTec with Ron Ice & Assoc.) under subcontract to HNTB for the following areas of Northern Ohio:
Purpose Federal regulations require that major Intelligent Transportation Systems projects deployed with federal funding after April 2005 conform to a regional ITS architecture based on the National ITS Architecture, and that the regional ITS architecture of planned and deployed projects be documented. Beyond the Federal Requirements, a regional ITS architecture represents a coherent plan for efficient deployment of information technology to satisfy local stakeholder surface transportation requirements.
Regional ITS Architecture Development Process The focus of the Regional ITS Architectures is to identify communication information exchange requirements between specific ITS elements in the Region.
Starting in January 2003, interviews were conducted by HNTB staff with agencies operating ITS systems in Northern Ohio to identify existing and planned inventory items and services. Along with information from previous architecture efforts in the regions, this information was used to begin the process of developing a Regional ITS Architecture with the stakeholders of each Region.
Having collected and assimilated information about the Region into
the draft Turbo Architecture database, we then conducted a one-day workshop in
each Region with stakeholders representing all aspects of ITS. Following a comment period and a second stakeholder workshop, a final consensus Regional ITS Architectures for each region will be documented. |
